Best Mexican Food in LA

This weekend we went back to The Gardens of Taxaco. Back in March we stumbled across this little place while out in West Hollywood at one of LA's best Happy Hours. For the past few months we have been talking about going back, but haven't made it back because honestly there are too many places to eat in LA.

After not eating all day, we drove east to West Hollywood. I say we (actually me) did not eat all day because this is a 5 course meal, and let's face it - I could go without eating a meal or two every other day. There is a catch to this place, there is no menu and only one margarita on the menu. Do not fear, this will be one of the best Mexican meals you will ever have!

Last night I had beef mole, because I really, really do not like chicken. There is a long story behind my dislike for chicken, but I will not go into it here (it might scare you away as well). The first course is a delicious cheese quesadilla, seriously it is delish! Then there is a soup course- its just soup, not going to talk it up so you don't believe me on the rest. Next you would normally get a scrumptious chicken enchilada, but the waiter remembered that I asked they make me a beef/steak mole because I don't like chicken SO he brought me out a steak taco. The steak taco was delish as well, and very thoughtful! Onto the main course, OMG it was so good. The steak was tender and the mole was heavenly. They end the meal with a banana cream dessert and sherry. I passed on the sherry, but the dessert was very good!

I could, but will not write a whole long paragraph on the margarita. I will tell you that it is tropical and oh so good!

If anyone lives in LA and ever stumbles across this blog, please go to Gardens of Taxaco. When you first walk in, it is dark and not impressive at all. The food is amazing though. In LA, there are so many delicious Mexican joints but this is by far my favorite. Their salsa is also amazing. I will not go back to a Mexican restaurant if they have a bad salsa, that is just a sin.

Edit: If you like coupons (I always feel like a nerd using one) on their website they offer great deals including an early bird special.

And I am not the first one who has stumbled across this place and felt it was worth writing about. It was plenty of great views and 4.5 stars in City Search.
